In 1956, Marshall Erdman—who had previously contracted Wright to build the Unitarian Church in Shorewood Hills—commissioned Wright to design Usonian homes that could be prefabricated. Wright expanded the project to include several models, which he called the Erdman Prefabs. The Jackson House is an example of Erdman Prefab #1. Under threat of demolition, in 1985 the house was sold for $1 to Christopher Fecht, a 33-year-old writer, and his 90-year-old grandfather, Paul Drennan, who moved it to its new location where it now operates as a bed and breakfast.
