2020 Virtual Summer Camp

Free Virtual Summer Camp

To continue with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Summer Art & Architecture Camp tradition while keeping campers and staff safe, this popular program has been re-tooled as a free virtual camp. Combining creativity with academic relevance, the Foundation’s innovative camps give students the opportunity to think and work outside the box. Virtual Camp will continue to encourage students to explore, create, and design with specially designed activities to work on from home. Although we will miss hosting campers on the property at Taliesin West, the newly renovated online format makes it possible to extend this opportunity free of charge to everyone! Plus, you can participate at the Virtual Camp regardless of how far you live from Taliesin West.

Week 1

The first week of camp, participants will learn the basics of structures and concepts of architecture through (virtual) hands-on experiments. During this time, campers will begin to develop their own dream space.

Week 2

In week 2, participants dive deeper into the realm of architecture, learning about floor plans and scaling. Through virtual community learning and sharing project ideas, campers end their second week with a scaled floor plan and a virtual 3D model created with a free, easy-to-use virtual building app.

Frank Lloyd Wright Education Activity Kit

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation Education Activity Kit provides a fun way to prepare for virtual summer camps and other K-12 Virtual activities offered by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation! This Education Activity Kit is not essential for Virtual Summer Camp participation. In fact, it’s a fun care package for all of us who love Frank Lloyd Wright, architecture, and design. The kit includes: two books, Who Built That? Modern Houses and Taliesin West Desert Laboratory Guidebook; a 24-pack of colored pencils with sharpener; a handy Alumidrafter measuring tool featuring an inspiring Wright quote; decorative origami paper; and two stickers representing iconic landmarks found at Taliesin West: the red “Whirling Arrow” logo, and the dragon, fashioned after the beloved fire-breathing sculpture on the property.

Campers beware: grown-ups will be tempted to borrow these prized kit supplies!
